A riddle for the quick of heart and mind -—
In the wind of time this happened
I stood in a vacant room of a large building
Downtown in a city nearby
Behind me a man spoke
Talking about things that were evil
Worrisome things that he felt were important
I made a joke as usual, some offhand remark
And the man asked me if I mocked him
I laughed and said something incoherent
A moment later I was still inside
But the man, or another man, stood outside
On the corner of the city street
He was shouting at us
So that we could hear him inside
And in a parade of downtown traffic
The man pointed out cars and people
Warning us of a strong man to come
He will be in a dark blue Chevy, the man said
And he waited to point him out
But from inside we could see the dark Chevy
It turned a corner a block away
It took a another street to avoid the man
And actually slipped right by all of us
All we saw were the tail lights
And we tried to tell the man
Who was still watching
That the car and the strong man
Had already slipped into the city
He smiled and understood our gestures
Through the thick glass of the window
Then he told me to give the strong man
A message
A word from the Lord
A message that would do the trick
Give him Psalm 90, he said
Give him Psalm 90, he repeated
That's the one
And as we walked side by side
Across the parking lot
The man slumped, losing consciousness
(I had to carry him to safety)
And I knew I would do it
Just as he had urged me to
I knew it was the right thing to do
And that I would do it
Messages in the wind & sounds in the night
Dreams that have meanings
Strangers that appear on city streets
And strong men in dark blue Chevys
I suppose it's all part of the plan
All in the plan, after all
Nothing is by an accident of timing
My Lord in heaven is working
And Jesus Christ is Lord of all things
He alone is Lord of all things, after all
So as Thomas the Twin said long ago
Let us go and die with Him
That in Him we might live —
Indeed, in Him we shall live forever
And where He is
That's where I want to be
