Hope

By Geraldine Witcher

Hope.
Is there room for hope in our world?
Where children are starving, dying in agony.
Where war tears apart and disease stalks unchecked.
Is there room for hope in our sin-sickened world?
Where even here in the church we fight,
And hurt each other by words and acts.
Where we deny the power of God in our midst.
Is there room for hope here?
The devil would have us all despair
But Jesus refused to bow!
Though forsaken by God,
Carrying all the weight of all the sins the world has ever known.
He trusted,
Hoped,
And rose again.
And so can I.
Even in the darkest night His love - a stairway - reaches down,
From heaven to me,
And up from me to heaven.
And in the light of his great love, I hope.
For I know that however dark it gets,
However stormy my way,
My Lord - the Conqueror of death is with me,
In me,
For me.
And I’m anchored in glory with Him.
Hope.
Yes there is room for hope.
For I must fight to drive the darkness back,
To make a light for God, here where I am.
And together, if we all try,
We can put so many holes of light and hope
In the blanket of darkness and fear
That the devil has spread on this world,
That it will fall to bits,
And the glorious Day of the Lord will come,
When hope becomes reality.
